On October 22, 2025, Center for Justice (CJ), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and with financial support from the European Union, commenced a training program focused on Resource Mobilization and Sustainability for Basket Fund Sub-Grantees involved in Legal Aid Service Provision. The training is being delivered to 30 participants from CSO and Universities and is set to run until October 23, 2025. Mr. Kumsa Gutteta, Executive Director of the Center for Justice, warmly welcomed all attendees and expressed his gratitude for their presence. He highlighted that this training marks the third round training on capacity building delivered by the Anchor consulting team, who have demonstrated their expertise in this area through previous sessions. Mr. Kumsa emphasized his hope that this training would be given practical insights, focusing specifically on resource mobilization and sustainability. He underscored the importance of this training for organizational sustainability, which is one of CJ's key program priorities. He concluded his remarks by encouraging everyone to engage actively in the training sessions. Following Mr. Kumsa’s remarks, Mr. Ermias Kostre, Associate Program Management Officer from UNODC, delivered a keynote speech. He noted that rigorous monitoring would be implemented throughout the project, and biannual meeting is scheduled to assess progress. Mr. Ermias expressed satisfaction with the reports received from sub-grantees, describing them as impressive and encouraging. He reiterated UNODC's commitment to providing support in all necessary areas and highlighted the crucial role of capacity building for the project's success, commending CJ for its efforts in this domain. Mrs. Feven Netsanet, Associate Program Manager for Rule of Law, Justice, and Governance at EU, gave opening speech. She expressed her gratitude to the sub-grantees for their participation and acknowledged CJ, UNODC, and Anchor Consulting Services for organizing the training. Mrs. Feven pointed out that the Basket Fund for Legal Aid is part of a broader EU program aimed at supporting the criminal justice system. She emphasized the significance of resource mobilization and sustainability training in overcoming donor dependency and officially opened the program, wishing all participants a fruitful learning experience.
